Tasting Notes
Chateau le Nerthe owned by the Richard family since 1978 has always been a good address in Chateauneuf du Pape but it seems things have got even better. The arrival in 2015 of Ralph Garçin as General Manager, previously winemaker at Jaboulet and before that viticulturist at Chapoutier, has really shaken this old estate up and his new wines are superb and have garnered top scores and reviews. The nose of Le Nerthe’s ethereal Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc 2017 is almost enough on its own but the palate is worth the wait; peachy fruit, Mirabelle plum stones with minerals and gentle oak, notes of vermouth herbs and gentle spice on the long finish. After a tasting sample I couldn’t wait to try a bottle. Made from Grenache Blanc, Roussanne (aged in Large oak casks for 7months) with some Clairette and Bourboulenc this will age well but it is oh so good now!
