Tasting Notes
Tavel is a small AC situated west of Chateauneuf and is home to one of the most famous rosés in France, it fame sprung from being the favourite tipple of The Sun King, Louis 14th; also adored by several Popes and Ernest Hemmingway put away a few bottles too. The Appellation stipulates that the wine should be a deep salmon colour and a fuller flavour than it's skinny Provencal neighbours,so it is a perfect food friendly wine while also lovely on its own. . The 12th century Priory is owned by the Richard family of Ch. le Nerthe and the wines here are overseen by their talented winemaker Ralph Garcin. Made from mostly Grenache with some Syrah and Grenache Blanc this has a pretty dark onion skin deep salmon colour and a full red fruited, cherry nose and a quite powerful, for a Rosé, palate of again red fruits, minerals and a long dry finish.
