Alves de Sousa Branco da Giavosa 2021
The Branco da Gaivosa was one of the very first white Douros released in 1992 and still one of the best.
With Alves de Sousa’s long history of White Port making behind them they were ahead of the game making white table wines. c. Before this could happen, many changes were made, first in the vineyards, moving the white varieties to the highest and coolest points of Gaivosa, to north and east facing slopes, and harvesting up to 2 weeks earlier than before. Then in the winery gentle pressing and decanting, with fermentation at cold temperatures, aging on the fine lees and just 10% aged in oak. All helping to enhance the freshness, minerality, complexity and elegance of this lovely wine.
In the glass this delightfully fresh and expressive with lemon rind and floral notes to the nose, fresh melon and light vanilla hint to the full palate but very fresh, mineral and very complex.
