Azienda Nesci Fra Antonio 2016 Palizzi IGT Calabria
The Fra’Antonio named after one of the three founding Nesci brothers is made from the powerful local, Calabrian, Nocera grape along with the more delicate Nerello Mascalese, famous for being grown accross the water on Mt. Etna
The old Nesci estate is situated right on the end of the toe of Italy in a sub region of Calabria called Palizzi;was run by Francesco Saverio, ex Professor of Agricultural Economics until his recent death, his two children now run it having worked beside him for many years. The estate also produces olives and interestingly Bergamot for which this region is famous.
The Fra’Antonio named after one of the three founding Nesci brothers is made from the powerful local Nocera grape along with the more delicate Nerello Mascalese, famous for being grown on Mt. Etna just across the water in Sicily. Aged 15 months in oak this is a warm enticing glass with plenty of length, with air it gets even better, well worth a try. This, the 2016, is the second vintage we have stocked and is as good as the first, always one of my favourites..
