Domaine de Chevilly Quincy La Licorne d'Or 2021
Attractive well priced Sauvignon from this often overlooked small AOC
Quincy sits astride the river Cher, south west of Sancerre between Menetou-Salon and Reuilly and has along history of winemaking first mentioned in 1120 and being the second appellation created in France, now one of the rarer ACs, its sandy aluvial soils are perfect for ripening Sauvignon Blanc.
Yves Lestourgie gave up arable farming to make Quincy over 20 years ago supported by his oenologist wife Géraldine. They work just over 11 hectares of vines with an average age of 24 years. The wine is fermented in stainless steel then aged on its lees for 3 months before bottling. This is very attarctive leafy mineral Sauvignon at a fraction of the price of its neighbours. The name comes from the two golden Unicorns - Licornes - rampant on ther crest.
