Description
Vangelis Gerovassiliou, one of Greece’s most famous winemakers, trained under the great Bordeaux wine guru Emile Peynaud in the 1970’s. Vangelis started renovating his old family vineyards in Epanomi, 25k southeast of Thessaloniki in 1981. His 72 hectare sandy clay, chalky vineyard has the sea on three sides tempering the warm Mediterranean summers perfect for white wines. Vangelis first started working with the indigenous Malagousia grape back in the 1970’s and is almost single-handedly responsible for saving it from extinction. A cool fermentation in stainless steel with a small percentage aged in French oak with further lees aging giving further depth to this is our favourite Greek white. Delivering complexity, freshness and real depth, lovers of Viognier will appreciate its floral and peachy notes, rounded palate and fresh citrus acidity.
