Description
The top Tokaji house of Disznókö make this incredibly rich dessert wine from a gently sloping single vineyard site in the south of the region, here the old volcanic clay soils and south east facing aspect give richness and depth to the Furmint, Hárslevelü and Zéta grapes. For this the fully botrytised grapes, known as aszú, were selected individually with several passes through the vineyard each day and stored in stainless steel containers. Two thirds of aszú berries are gently pressed and put into a base wine of the same vintage, then the richer and more shrivelled grapes were added whole to macerate for 2-3 days before gentle pressing and continuing the fermentation in stainless steel tanks. It is then passed to 225lt oak casks some new for a further 30 months. A deep golden colour and an intense mouthful with citrus notes, pineapple, apricot and marmalade. Rounded and unctuous with fresh and crisp acids and a long lingering finish. Delicious now but these wines are fairly bombproof and will last almost indefinitely.
