Description
This powerful wine from the iron rich, chalky marl soils of Valpantena, Valpolicella’s only Cru, in the foothills of the mountains north of Verona. This traditional blend of air dried grapes, 80% Corvina, 20% Rondinella , is truly hedonistic! Luscious scents of Cherry preserve, vanilla and liquorice leap from the glass. This deep ruby red wine is smooth and warming in the mouth. A balanced and harmonious suite of tannins make this perfect with game or aged cheeses. The family firm of Tezza was founded in 1960 and is now run by three cousins Flavio, Federico and Vanio, we think their wines are excellent and have followed them for a while, their vineyards are all now farmed organically.
If you have read Thomas Harris’ The silence of the lambs you will know that Hannibal Lecter drunk an Amarone not a Chianti ,as used in the film, with the liver of his victim. With obviously no experience, this is possibly a better food pairing!
