Argiano Solengo 2021 IGT Toscana

£64.99

A stunning Super Tuscan from vines in Brunello di Montalcino

Description

Argiano’s stunning 16th century villa was built around an older fort by the powerful Pecci family from Sienna. Countess Noemi Marone Cinzano, heir to the famous vermouth business, took over the estate in 1962 re booting the fame of the estate and bringing in oenologist Giacomo Tachis (Sassicaia fame) who would help to produce their famous Super Tuscan Solengo. Since 2013 the estate has been run by Bernardino Sani, helped by agronomist Francesco Monari. With determined sustainable methods in the cellar and vineyards along with organic farming the results are excellent and their wines are back to their best.

Their Super Tuscan Solengo was first produced in 1995 and is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Merlot and Sangiovese. Each variety is fermented separately with 20 days on the skins in concrete tanks then blended and aged for 18 months in 60% new 40% second use French barriques. With a deep colour and knock out dark fruited, tobacco wrapped nose. The tannins are countered by the powerful fruit making this surprisingly approachable though it will keep for many years.
