Description
Babylonstorens 94 hectares of vineyards sit on the slopes of the Simonsberg Mountain between the wine-growing areas of Franschhoek, Stellenbosch and Paarl. Their flagship Bordeaux blend is called Nebukadnesar (slightly different spelling to the Biblical Nebuchadnezzar, king of the Babylonian Empire in 605 BC) is made up of 49% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc, 13.5% Petit Verdot, and 0.5% Malbec. Each varietal is vinified separately and matured in new French oak barrels for 23 months. After assembling the wine rests in tank for a month before bottling and further matured for five months prior to release.
This opulent dark fruited wine befits its royal name and has all the attributes of greatness. Deceptively easy to drink now but will grow in stature and complexity over the next ten years.
