Description
Carpineto is a joint venture between the Sacchet and Zaccheo families who between them own five different estates in Tuscany. Each estate has its own winery overseen by winemaker Caterina Sacchet. Here a 300 year old cellar, surrounded by it’s vines.
Their 25 acre vineyard is one of the highest in the region 500m at its peak, partially north facing giving great balance to the wines.
Made from 100% Sangiovese Grosso with long maceration on the skins in tank before passing to large oak casks for three years aging.
In ancient times this estate was called Forteto del Drago, the Dragon’s Fort, because a very large and mean animal lived in the thick forests surrounding the vineyards. When it turned out to be just a very big porcupine the locals were no longer scared of it, but the legend remains to this day and it is the reason why there is a red dragon on the label!
