Cave de la Côte Chasselas 2022 Vins de Pays Suisse

This delightful Chasselas comes from the best co-operative in Switzerland Vaud region

Created in 1929 the Cave de la Côte is the most important co-operative in the La Côte Appellation the biggest wine-growing region in the canton of Vaud lying between the mountains and northern edge of Lake Geneva. Drawing from 1,800 plots of various sizes and 300 growers extending over 450 hectares. The winemaking is overseen by Chilean Oenologist Rodrigo Banto who has totally revitalized the production since he arrived in 2003.

This juicy floral and fresh Chasselas is a prime example of what this oft maligned grape variety can do in good hand from a perfect site.

Chasselas is an old variety originating here in the Lemanic Arc (north of Lake Geneva), where it was already known under the name of Fendant in the 17th century. On the vine, Chasselas tends to ripen early, making it a good match for Switzerland’s cool alpine slopes. It can be a vigorous and over productive vine if not properly controlled, which has perhaps contributed to its poor reputation outside Switzerland. However, the best examples can be complex and rich, showing a range of fruity, floral and mineral flavours, with good acidity and the ability to age well in the cellar. The variety matches perfectly with traditional Swiss cuisine like fondue.
