Description

Chàteau le Gardera was named after the Gardera family, owners during the reign of King Louis XIV. The impressive château was built at the time of Napoleon III around 1850. The property was acquired by the Cordier family in 1951, retaining the vineyards, the company ceded the château and its park to an association that there founded a hostel for schoolchildren and apprentices. Today, the property is now run by Philippe and Eric Gonfrier.

The 60 hectare property sits on a rocky spur above the Garenne river the vines mostly Merlot and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon grow on classic gravelly clay. The grapes are destemmed and given a cold maceration for 72 hours before fermenting in stainless steel over 20 days, then passing into French oak casks for further aging.
