Description
The beautiful Tenuta Collazzi has belonged to the Marchi family since 1933. The 16th century villa, designed by Michelangelo, sits atop a hill overlooking Florence. Surrounded by its 400 hectare estate, with 25 hectares under vine and 140 hectares of olive trees, farmland and woodland.
The stunning eponymous Collazzi Toscana Rosso, first produce in 1999 is a blend of 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot. The vines sit in a natural amphitheatre with an optimal south-west exposure on chalky clay rich in fossils. The grapes are handpicked and transferred quickly to the nearby cellar; a sorting table is used to select the best fruit before fermenting in small batches. The wines are passed into new French barriques for the malolactic fermentation and further aging for 18 months.
With an enticing nose of cassis and red fruits and long dark fruited palate with perfectly balanced tannins and long finish.
