Description
Jean-Baptiste Lebreuil makes lovely wines from his 10.5 acres in Savigny les Beaune, farming sustainably and all but organically, producing classic, expressive and elegant Savigny.
The Grand Liard vineyard separates the two clusters of Premier cru sites, the higher lying one to the north are cooler and make the most elegant wines and the rather deep soils to the south being fuller bodied ripening almost a week earlier.
The grapes are hand picked and given a 6-8 day cold soak with some pumping over of the juice to extract fruit and colour. Then a ten day fermentation with some punching down of the skins and pressing before being run off into oak barrels, 15% new and aging for a year.
Jean-Baptiste’s Savigny Grand Liard has lovely juicy palate of strawberry and dark cherry with a mineral core perky acidity and soft tannins. A lovely example.
