Description

Jean-Baptiste Ponsot is the third generation to run this small Domaine in Rully in Burgundy’s Côte Chalonnaise. He farms his 8.8 hectare estate sustainably without using any pesticides or herbicides.

His En bas de Vauvry comes from a plot bought by his grandfather in 1910 but left as a meadow until Jean-Baptiste took over in 2000. He gradually replanted this 3 hectare plot with mostly Chardonnay and some Pinot Noir. Though it sits within the Premier Cru part of Rully it only has Village classification.

After pressing the must has a 24 hour cold soak before passing into a mix of stainless steel (15%) and remainder into barrels, 20% new the rest of 1 to 4 years, for 12 months aging.

The nose of this lovely white is bold with powerful fruit and complex wood notes, again complex and full flavoured and very long and enticing.
