Jimbro Origen Blanco 2022

£24.99

A fascinating flavoursome white from the tiny Arribes DO on the river Duero.

Description

The Origen Blanco from Jimbro, pronounced heem-bro, comes from the wild, high lying, little known Arribes DO planted on the edge of the Duero river as it turns south forming a border with Portugal. Here the Duero has carved deep canyons in the granite hillsides, with steep terraces cut into the side. Once a thriving wine region in the 19th century but due to an aging population and the drift to the cities viticulture is now on a tiny scale. Winemaker Joaquin Bartolomé, who’s family have made wines in Castilla Y Leon region for many years discovered the area while canoeing the canyons.

With a range of unique grape varietals mostly from old low yielding vines making for a range of interesting wines. The Jimbro Blanco from vines age between 50-120 years, a blend of 35% Puesta en Cruz along with a local clone of Malvasia. Fermented with their natural yeasts in tank and left on its lees for 18 months before bottling, then resting a further 18 months before release.

With a nose of waxy lemons and peaches and a powerful palate of peaches and melon with minerality and fresh acidity, really interesting.
