Description
Louis Chèze founded his Domaine in 1978 in the village of Limony close to where the appellations of Condrieu and Saint-Joseph meet. Having started with just one hectare of vines the Domaine now extends to 45, mostly in Saint-Joseph and Condrieu.
His superb Saint-Joseph Anges comes from a small, plateau lying vineyard of 50 year old Syrah vines. The grapes are destemmed and carefully sorted, fermentation takes place in small stainless-steel tanks before passing into new French oak barrels for its malolactic fermentation and aging for 22 months and bottled without filtration.
The colour is deep and a warm dark fruited nose leaps from the glass. The palate is full and ripe with graphite infused dark berries and spices with a long finish. Drinking now but this wine could keep another 10 years.
