Description
Thaya Winery is situated in the Znojmo sub region of western Moravia and is overseen by award winning young winemaker Jakub Smrčka.
The proximity to the River Dyje and the cold winds blowing from the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands, gives the local wines their unmistakable spicy taste and fullness. Sunny days alternate with cold nights allows the grapes ripen more slowly yet retain their aromas. Thanks to a mixture of calcareous clays and Loess soils over the granitic base this gives the wines good minerality and freshness.
Their St Laurent, a distant relative of the Pinot Noir, is fermented in tank and aged in a mix of 400l and 1200l oak casks to preserve the ripe red fruits and not to give too much tannin.
