Description
The Waldschütz winery dates to 1849 and was situated in Obernholz in the north of the Kamptal region with vineyards in both Kamptal and nearby Wagram. Today the winery is based on their Wagram site in Sachsendorf although their historic and award winning Heurige (wine tavern) is still located on the site of the original winery in Obernholz.
Owned by Anton Waldschütz since 1992, who handed over the running of the estate to his son Ralph ( sixth generation) in 2021.
Their single vineyard, Brunnthal, is designated ÖTW and sits on deep Loess soil giving plenty of depth and richness to this delicious Gruner Veltliner. The vineyard was planted in 2004 and the grapes are picked late with a hint of Botrytis. Fermented with the skins for a short time for extra flavour and aromatics; this leaps out of the glass with flowers and peaches and a creamy long palate of peach and pear with acidity which perfectly balances the ripe fruit, stunning.
Ried means single vineyard and ÖTW is the equivillent of a 1er cru
