Rascallion Wines The Devonian 2019 Swartland
This attractive 100% Chenin Blanc feremted in old oak offering lots of depth and length
Rapscallion’s The Devonian is made from 100% Chenin Blanc from Swartland, the grapes wre harvested in three differing times at three differing ripeness levels for depth of flavour and acidity. Chilled overnight and whole bunch pressed, the juice then settled overnight then racked off into 5 year old 300lt French oak barrels for a natural fermentation, without any Sulphur added. The whole went through malolactic fermentation and rested on its lees before bottling.
This wine shows a mélange of flavours on the nose of lime, floral, oatmeal, and honey. The palate has a soft entry with a creamy texture, and there is good balance between the subtle acidity from the limey notes and the sweetness from the floral notes. The finish is slightly nutty with a hint of minerality.
