This was the first time I'd tried the little known Passerina grape and it was love at first sight
Passerina is one of the indigenous varieties of the Offida region of the Marche, it normally plays very much second fiddle to the more famous Peccorino grape but for price, pleasure and pure fun this was a winner.
Carminucci was founded in 1928 and is still run by, second generation, Piero Carminucci who oversaw the conversion to estate bottling in 1999. His vines sit at between 200-300m up on clay soil. The grapes are hand picked and given a 12 hour cold maceration before fermentation in stainless steel tanks to capture the floral white fruited nose and peachy notes to the fresh dry palate, a low 12% alc makes for several pleasurable glasses.
