Tasting Notes
Aurélian Grillet is the 7th generation to farm this old estate in Morgon, owning vineyard sites in three of the best sites in the Appellation. Aurélian farms organically, ploughing by horse when possible and is in the process of transitioning to be certified Bio-dynamic. This lovely wine comes from 60 year old vines in the large les Charmes vineyard to the south west of the village, here the soils are a crumbly clay giving richness and elegance to the Gamay grape. Aurélian uses old fashioned methods letting the bunches macerate for 15-20 days, for colour and fruit extraction, before a gentle pressing, thence into concrete vats where its natural yeasts get to work. The resulting wine is run off into oak barrels for aging and bottling after Easter the following year. Lovely almost Burgundian fruit on the nose and a long mineral wrapped palate really impressive.
