Description
Domaine Berthenet is a family-run domaine on the hillsides in Montagny, currently led by François Berthenet who took the reins from his father Jean-Pierre in 2009. The family has been growing grapes for approximately four centuries but it wasn’t until 1974 that they purchased their first hectares to plant parcels of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The domaine has 20 hectares of sustainably farmed vines on clay and limestone soils, which especially gives tension and weight to their whites.
The Tête de Cuvée Montagny 2022 is a blend of the domaine’s lower-lying, and thus not Premier Cru, vineyards, from clay and stoney soils. François uses only the first press of juice for an open and accessible style, and the wine is fermented and held in stainless steel. This is a very enjoyable, well-knit, gently spicy wine with subtle notes of apricot, lemon and subtle pineapple. Crisp and long with lovely minerality.
