Glaetzer Amon-Ra Shiraz 2021

£54.99

A stunning old vine Shiraz from one of the masters of the Shiraz art.

Description

The first Glaetzers settled in the Barossa Valley in 1888 after emigrating from Brandenburg, Germany. The family were some of the earliest recorded viticulturalists in the Barossa Valley and Clare Valley.

Glaetzer wines was started by Colin Glaetzer, a Barossa Valley winemaking legend, sourcing grapes from old vineyards in the Ebenezer sub region in the north of the Barossa Valley. His Son Ben took over the winemaking and he too is recognised as one of the great Barossa winemakers.

His wines are typified by the pureness of fruit balanced by freshness, ripe tannins and acidity.

Ben’s Amon-Ra comes from 100% Shiraz vines sourced from the famed Ebenezer sub district at the northern tip of the Barossa Valley. Vine age 50—130 years old. Yield 2 tonnes per hectare.

Fermented in 1 and 2 tonne open fermenters, hand plunged 3 times daily. Matured for 16 months in 100% new oak hogshead barrels (95% French and 5% American)

Multiple dark fruit notes saturate the palate, enhanced with graceful spice and herb notes. It will age for many years to come.
