Description
Mendel Wines was created in 2003 a joint venture between, star Argentinian winemaker Roberto de La Mota and the Sieleki family. The heart of the estate are their vineyards in Mayor Drummond in Lujan de Cuyo where the vines date back to 1928. The vineyard holding expanded further adding the two further Fincas in Lujan de Cuyo and two in Altamira in the Valle de Uco.
Their Mendel Malbec comes from vines planted in 1928 in their Mayor Drummond vineyard in Lujan de Cuyo, Mendoza. The grapes are carefully selected and fermented in 80 hectolitre tanks for about 25 days before being aged 12 months in French oak barrels, 1/3 new, 1/3 one year old and 1/3 two years old. Bottled with light clarification without filtering and aged a further 6 months.
Intense red colour in the glass and ripe red and black fruits with hints of chocolate, licorice and spices on the well balanced oak on the palate.
