Description
The Monte Bernardi estate is situated in Panzano, one of the best sites in the Chianti Classico region. Owned since 2003 by Michael Schmelzer who has invested heavily in its vineyards and cellar, the results are impressive. The estate extends to 45 hectares but only 15 are under vine, farmed organically and bio dynamically.
The 2023 Riserva is a one off, because of the difficult conditions that year caused by hail and mildew, Michael after careful grape selection declassified all his top single vineyard sites into this wine. The wine spent 2 years in 3000 and 5000l french oak barrels.
The result is a stunning array of complex dark cherry fruit with balanced tannins and real length.
