Description
Pedomontis farm 16 hectares of vines amongst their truffle forest and hazelnut plantations in Roero north of Asti. Working highly sustainably the vines are inter planted with grasses which are browsed by a herd of donkeys keeping it in check and naturally fertilizing the soil.
Their delightful aromatic and fresh Roero Arneis comes from a 20 year old vineyard of just under half a hectare situated on the classic sandy soils of Roero at 270 meters up. The wine undergoes a cool fermentation in stainless steel and aged on its lees for 5 months.
For centuries Arneis was vinified sweet or used for Vermouth , it experienced a period of splendor linked to the European royal courts, and then risked extinction toward the early 1900s when, due to its difficulty in being cultivated and poor yield, it was almost abandoned in favor of more generous and easier to grow grape varieties such as Chardonnay.
