Description
Quinta Nova sits on the north side of the Douro in the Cima Corgo the best area of the Douro. Owned by the Amorim family since 1999, their 85 hectares of vines fan out up the steep slope above the pretty 19th century manor house and waterfront chapel where travelers would stop and pray before ascending the terrifying rapids further up the Douro towards Pinhão, before the river was dammed in the 1960’s.
The estate is now mainly used for their exciting range of table wines benefitting from the schist soils, 41 differing plots planted with mono varietals Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca and Tinta Cão with an average age of 45 years along with a modern winery.
The powerful complex Grainha Reserva offers a full and generous mix of, dense and spicy fruity aromas, with a silky texture, fine tannins and a firm structure and along finish.
Aged 14 months in30% new French oak and older French and Hungarian oak barrels.
