Description
This old Dao estate ws founded in 1255, on the site of a Roman villa. Now owned by the Amorim family, the major player in Portugals cork industry, overseen by Luísa Amorim and winemakers Jorge Alves and Rodrigo Costa. Their new gravity fed winery complete with stainless steel and tulip shaped concrete vats along with an array of oak cuves. and barrels. Their high lying vineyards are planted on granitic soils giving freshness and complex minerality.
Touriga Nacional originates from the Dao region and is renowned as Portugal top varietal, here it is planted as bush vines, close to the ground. The grapes are destemmed and fermented in stainless steel before aging 7 months 20% in new 500 litres French oak barrels and 80% in second year barrels for 9 months.
The granitic soils give real vibracy to the dark spicy fruit, beautifully balanced this drinks beautifully now but will keep well too
