Description
Geographica is a side project set up by revered South African Winemaker Chris Williams of The Foundry and previously at Meerlust.
He selects single varietals from single sites, highlighting varietal characteristics and place.
The Thoreau Cabernet Franc comes from a 44 year old Cabernet Franc vineyard planted on the western slopes of the Klapmuts mountain in Stellenbosch, planted on decomposed granite and laterite, which is high in iron ores.
This is definitely a Loire like Cabernet Franc rather than a Bordelais, elegant, fresh dark red fruits and herbs with perky tannins and hints of iodine from those iron rich soils. Very attractive and food friendly.
