Description
The Vietti family has been producing wine for four generations in Castiglione Falletto, in the heart of the Barolo region. Founded in the 1880’s by Carlo Vietti, now run by Luca Currado Vietti and is recognised as one of the very best Piedmont producers.
Vietti’s lovely, tiny production Tomorasso from the colli Tortonesi region is a delicious multi textured white wine which deserves a wider audience than just savvy sommeliers.
The wine is fermented in ceramic eggs, oak casks and stainless steel tanks for about 4 months, the malolactic fermentation is repressed to keep freshness and followed by a further 10 months aging in the same vessels..
The rare Timorasso grape variety hales from the steep hills just to the east of the town of Tortona in eastern Piedmont, Italy. In the past Timorasso was praised as a noble variety and widely planted across Piedmont. It used to form the backbone of Gavi. But it has never been an easy grape to manage, and over time and after phylloxera it was almost entirely supplanted by the more reliable if less exciting Cortese. Saved from extinction by winemaker Walter Massa in the 80’s there are now about 500 producers, this is one of the best.
