Description
This Old Family run estate founded in 1875 makes delicious Vouvray from the Chenin Blanc grape, they farm their vineyards organically and bio-dynamically.
The single vineyard Clos Rougemont is a stunning glass of Vouvray with real depth and length.
In 1995 the family acquired with a 50 year lease the Clos Rougemont, the vineyard of the old abbey of Marmoutier, from the City of Tours. This vineyard, the oldest in Vouvray, purportedly planted by Saint Martin of Tours in the 4th century, had been abandoned since it was destroyed by Phylloxera in the late 1800’s. The soil is pure limestone and it is planted with a mix of un-grafted Chenin Blanc vines and some cuttings from their own vineyards. The wine is fermented with its natural yeasts in small oak barrels with a small percentage new oak and aged on its lees until the following spring.
