Description
After being introduced to the site by acclaimed winemaker Helen Turley, Jayson Pahlmyer purchased the then-named Wayfarer Farm in 1998. Located in the Fort Ross-Seaview AVA on the north western reaches of the Sonoma Coast, the vineyard sits 1,100 feet in altitude, just 4 miles from the Pacific Ocean. This dramatic landscape is the home to a 12 ha vineyard, planted on slopes among winding mountain roads and redwoods. Originally planted in 30 one-acre plots devoted to different clones of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The first vintage of Wayfarer was produced in 2012, ten years after the vineyard was planted with Todd Kohn winemaker and Jayson’s daughter Cleo Pahlmeyer at the helm.
The stunning Wayfarer WF2 is made up of all the barrels that didn’t make the cut for the Wayfarer premium cuvees. The fruit is hand picked before sunrise, hand sorted and destemmed before being transferred to tank for a five to 7 day cold maceration and a two week fermentation with the natural yeasts. Aging is in a mix of new and older oak barrels.
