Description
The excellent Domaine de la Charbonnière is made up of 19 hectares of vines in various parts of Châteauneuf-du-Pape run by sisters Veronique and Caroline Maret.
This cuvée comes from old vines planted on the Brusquière plateau in the north west of the region, here the soils are the famous rolled stone (galets) over iron rich red clay giving power and complexity.
The blend is 60% Grenache, 39% Syrah and 1% Counoise, the grape are partially de stemmed and when possible co-fermented in stainless steel and large oak foudres. Aging is in oak demi muids and some barrels.
Lovely richness on the nose from those old vines, followed by a long complex palate.
