Anthonij Rupert Wines is run by Johannes Rupert as attribute to Anthonij his winemaker brother who died young. The wines are sourced from his L’Ormarins estate in Franchhoek and a new state of the art winery, no expense is spared here with attention to every detail. The Optima is a classic Bordeaux blend of 36% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Cabernet Franc, 30% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot, aged for 20 months I French oak barriques, 30% new. With tempting black fruits on the nose and a complex palate of ripe plums, black berries and herbs with chocolate and dark tobacco, the tannins are balanced and the finish is long and harmonious. Very rewarding, drinking now but will keep too.
