Arthur Ostertag has fourteen hectares of vines around the village of Epfig, he farms sustainably and biodynamically, certified since 1998. His Jardin range is sourced from 88 differing plots from 5 villages.
For his Jardins Riesling he sources from13 plots of vines with an average age of 30 years, in Epfig, Itterswiller and Nothalten, on 3 types of soil: Vosges red sandstone: sand and sandstone ; clay and sandstone ; sandstone and volcanic.
The Jardin range are fermented with their natural yeasts in stainless steel and tend to be left for a year on their lees before bottling. The old vines and long lees aging give this wine its spectacular long and mineral rich palate.
