Gorgo Summa 2022 Custoza Superiore DOC
Gorgo's stunning rich but dry Summa Custoza Superiore comes from their oldest vines 50-60 years of age, picked late, aided by partially cutting the canes of the bunches to reduce water uptake
Agricola Gorgo is run by ex lawyer turned winemaker Roberta Bricolo who returned in 2014 to take over the estate founded by her father in 1973. Gorgo is based in the Village of Custoza south east of Lake Garda growing the classic grapes of the Verona region. Her 53 hectares of vines are all farmed sustainably and organically making an excellent range of pure fruit forward wines.
Roberta’s stunning Summa Custoza Superiore comes from her oldest vines 50-60 years of age, picked late, aided by partially cutting the canes of the bunches to reduce water uptake. A blend of 40% Garganega, 30% Bianca Fernanda (local clone of the Cortese grape of Gavi fame), 12.5% Trebbianello,12.5% Trebbiano and 5% Riesling.
Exotic floral scents, orange blossom, stone fruit and sweet spice spill onto the palate with ripe tropical fruit and the minerality really shines through. This is an opulent and complex wine with perfect acidity would be perfect with lobster or crab.
