Marras Piekenierskloof Chenin Blanc 2022
Martin “Marras” Lamprecht has a small vineyard of old un-irrigated, bush vine Chenin Blanc high up in the wild Piekenierskloof mountain pass
Piekenierskloof is the wild mountain pass between Piketberg and Citrusdal, over the Olifants River Mountains, the name comes from the pikemen posted in the area by the Dutch East India Company to protect farmers from the indigenous nomadic tribesmen. Here Martin “Marras” Lamprecht has a small vineyard of old un-irrigated, bush vine Chenin Blanc, whose low yields give real length and breadth to this lovely Chenin. Picked by hand and cooled overnight, then destemmed, crushed and left for 4 hours to obtain skin contact. Partially natural fermented in a combination of barrel and tank and matured on fine lees for 6 months. This wine is scented honeyed and delicious with lots of length and depth, it would be interesting to see how it ages too.
