Description
Silver Heights was founded in 2007 by Lin Gao and his Bordeaux trained winemaker daughter Emma Gao in the Helan Mountains region of Ningxia. Situated between the Helan Mountains and the Yellow River at around 1200 meters up, this is one of China’s most exciting wine regions. The altitude gives cooling influences during the summer months but the extreme winter cold means that they must bury the vines to survive the freeze, very labour intensive and expensive. The vineyards are farmed organically and in conversion to biodynamic farming.
Emma’s Family Red is a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Merlot aged for 14 months in 40% new French Oak and the remainder in older neutral oak. The fruit is dark and full bodied reminiscent of a good Napa Red.
