Silver Heights Ningxia Marselan 2021
Silver Heights was founded in 2007 by Lin Gao and his Bordeaux trained winemaker daughter Emma Gao in the Helan Mountains region of Ningxia. Situated between the Helan Mountains and the Yellow River at around 1200 meters up, this is one of China's most exciting wine regions. The altitude gives cooling influences during the summer months but the extreme winter cold means that they must bury the vines to survive the freeze, very labour intensive and expensive. The vineyards are farmed organically and in conversion to biodynamic farming.
Emma's produces only 3000 bottles of her Ningxia Marselan which perfectly shows the potential of this Languedoc varietal, which seems perfectly suited to China’s climate. A cool maceration and fermentation followed by a year aging in 100% new French oak, bottled with minimal use of sulphur and no filtration.
Dark berries and mulberry minerality on the nose and palate this is powerful and long and impressive.
