Terrescure Neropece 2020 Governo Uso Toscano IGT
The attractive Neropece offers soft tannins, lovely ripe dark cherry and plum fruit, warmth and depth but only 13.5% alcohol.
Terrescure was founded by wine industry veteran Andrea Valiani with his son Marco, in 2016 with 10 hectares of vines situated 30km south-east of Florence. Using modern viticulture and winemaking methods from the 19th century they have created this fascinating wine.
Their Neropece, produced fro 70 % Sangioves and 30% Merlot, is made using the old Tuscan method called Governo. This was used in the past to boost lighter bodied wines. Most of the wine is crushed and fermented as usual but about 10% is air died for about 2 months and added later starting a small fermentation and boosting the fruit levels. Somewhat similar to the Ripasso method in the Veneto. The wine is further aged for 3-4 months in oak barrels.
The result is a wine with soft tannins, lovely ripe dark cherry and plum fruit, warmth and depth but only 13.5% alcohol. Awarded 97pts by Luca Maroni and listed at the Fat Duck.
