Andrew Murray Vineyards Espérance 2020
Andrew Murray’s winery in the Santa Ynez valley of Santa Barbara is almost entirely dedicated to his pursuit of growing the best Rhône varietals. Lovers of wines from the Rhône should not miss this great range of wines.
Having travelled in the Rhône and worked in Australia he returned home to study viticulture and oenology at UC Davis and founded his winery in the cool Santa Ynez Valley. Here coastal breezes are funnelled in from the coast giving a long growing season ideal for Syrah.
Andrew Murray’s Espérance is a classic southern Rhône blend, of 65% Grenache, 20% Mourvèdre and 15% Syrah aged in oak 10% new for 18 months. With classic Ripe red fruits and spicy dark cherries and gamey notes, good structure and lots of length this is drinking well but will keep too.
