Mamete Prevostini La Cruus Valtellina Superiore Inferno DOCG 2019
A stunning full flavoured Nebbiolo from the steep slopes of the Valtellina region in the foothills of the Dolomites
The Prevostini family have been producing wines from the Nebbiolo grape (here called Chiavennasca) on the steep terraced slopes of Valtellina since the mid-1940s. Originally just to supply their famous restaurant in Sondrio at the gateway to the Valtellina in the foothills of the Dolomites. Today the winery is run by third generation Mamete Prevostini since 1995, and the vineyard holding has increased to include some of cru sites such as this Inferno where the vines cling to the high terraces of the south facing valleys of this jaw droppingly beautiful region.
The la Cruus (Cross) Vineyard is situated on an unterraced site 570m up the soil is sandy with little clay content on a base of Granite. Planted in 2010 with Nebbiolo trained in rows around the hillside, with its own onsite winery. The grapes are handpicked, destemmed and lightly pressed before a 15 day maceration, fermentation. After a final pressing the wine is run off into oak barrels for its malolactic fermentation and a year’s aging, resting a further 10 months in bottle before release.
A knockout nose and palate of sweet dark cherries mineral wrapped raspberries and herbs and spice notes with soft tannins, everything you want from a Barolo but rarely get!
