Mundo Reves Asa Nisi Masa Malbec 2021
A intense, juicy, un-oaked Malbec from the Uco Valley.
Mundo Reves is a joint venture between two French winemakers, Quentin Pommier who makes the wines along with Thibault Lepoutre whose day job is running two of Francois Lurton’s estates in the Uco Valley.
Their Asa Nisi Masa Malbec with its wacky label is a homage to the surrealist universe of Frederico Fellini. The grapes come from Paraje Altimira in the high lying Valle de Uco. The grapes are picked in mid March and fermented in concrete tanks, up to 20% of the juice is bled off to raise the proportion of skin to juice to increase the colour and extraction, a method known as Saignée. This certainly works as the colour is intense along with the juicy graphite and cocoa laced fruit.
Asa Nisi Masa is a well-known nonsense phrase used during a key scene in Fellini’s 1963 film 8½.
