Bodegas Tarón Cepas Centenarias 2019
Taron’s stunning Cepas Centenarias comes from a single plot of Tempranillo vines of over 100 years of age situated at 500m up, on chalky clay soils. The grapes are cold macerated on the skins under dry ice to prevent oxidation and once fermentation has started the lees are stirred daily and racked twice to extract colour and aroma. After 21 days the wine is passed into new French oak casks and aged for 10 months before bottling and further rested before release.
Bodegas Tarón is a cooperative situated in the cool northern part of the Rioja Alta, their grapes are sourced from four neighbouring villages, Cuzcurrita de Rio Tiron, Sajazarra, Villaseca and Tirgo which shared similar terroir and climate; they have about 700 hectares of vineyards giving them enough for their needs and excess to sell, it also means that all their wines can be labelled as Rioja Alta.
